Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My magazine has no real genre, it consists of upcoming musicians in East Anglia, so the genre will be mixed. For example my DPS is about a rapper called B.Solly so i went for a street/urban look. Ive gone for a cool look which also looks formal.

I was influenced by Q Magazine and NME, i think they are well set out and there isn't a main genre, they are similar to my magazine.

Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task (the college magazine task), what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

These are the comparisons between my preliminary college magazine and final music magazine front pages and contents. Before i started my preliminary pages i had no experience with photoshop and magazine designs, i had done no research into college magazines. However before i started my final music magazine i did alot of research into target audiences and other music magazines. I looked at alot of  NME and Q magazines which helped me come up with a unique design which would attract a mixed target audeince. My college magazine looks very amatuerish and the contents doesn't even have a title.

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Throughout the creation of my magazine the technologies i have used are:

-Photoshop
-Survey Monkey
-Flickr
-Blogger
-Powerpoint

Photoshop

Photoshop was the main technology i used, i used it through the schools network. Photoshop is great for designing everything, however there are advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages
- Photoshop is the best image editor on the market today.
- Photoshop can do the graphics and the text all in one program.
- With layers you can change the size of each element independently.
- Although its hard to use once you master it, almost anything is possible.
- Allows you to become a publisher

Disadvantes
- Photoshop does not have a dictionary.
- Photoshop can't make vector images.
- Difficult to learn and get used to.
- Most things in the media are edited through photoshop and this makes everything fake.

Overall i have learnt alot about photoshop in my media lessons and after making this magazine i am confident i can go go on and design anything on photoshop.

Survey Monkey

Advantages
-You can create surveys with as many questions you like.
-The ordering of choices within a question can introduce an unintended bias. This service enables you to randomise answer choices to eliminate order bias.
- Helps you find patterns in your results.
- You can let others view the results without giving them access to your Survey Monkey account.
- All of the data can be downloaded to your computer for further analysis. The results can be exported into Excel, which you can use to create graphs.
- All of your questions and answers will remain private

Disadvantages
- Only as good as your answers
- Some people have problems with working it

Flickr

Advantages
-The basic account is free of charge.
-Cool social website
-Lots of websites support Flickr
-Lots of cool features, geotagging etc.
-Greets you in different languages then explains them, this helps you to learn greetings in loads of languages.

Disadvantages
-You are limited to only 100 megabytes a month for a free account.
-Videos are only allowed for the paying members.
-Subject to being taken down for “questionable content”.

Blogger

Advantages
- Blogger is free
- You can publish instantly
- Your writing skills will improve
- It is quick and simple to design your blog and to upload.
-Updating your blog can sometimes help people and can educate them

Disadvantages
- Because its free if it went down there would be no control over it.

Powerpoint

Advantages
- Easy to input images
- Template designs are built in for you to choose from which makes the process quicker
- Can easily add media and recordings etc.
- More enjoyable then producing a boring word document
- Slides make presentations consistent and less boring

Disadvantages
- Animations and backgrounds on powerpoint are distracting, this can distract the audience from the important things in the slide
- When a powerpoint document has alot of pages the file size can become ridiculously large
- Powerpoint is complicated
- Takes a long time to create a decent powerpoint

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

My magazine is read by all different types of people so the language will have to be appropriate for all ages. With my magazine being a magazine that targets all local people the language will have to be proper English, so everyone can understand it and articles will contain no slang. However my magazine does contain artist quotes which may include slang or swearing.

I asked many people of different classes and ages about how my magazine articles should be written, The younger people said they wanted it to be realistic with swearing and slang and the older people said they wanted it to be proper English so they could understand it. With proper English everyone can understand it whereas if i had language which young people use these days the older people will get confused and wont understand.
